Texas A&M Women’s Tennis Improves to 6-0 After Defeating UNLV and Lamar

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M women's tennis defeated UNLV and Lamar Friday at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center. The Aggies topped the Runnin' Rebels 6-1 before dispatching the Cardinals 6-1 to improve to 6-0 this spring.

Texas A&M opened the doubleheader capturing the doubles point for the fifth straight match. A&M's Riley McQuaid and Dorthea Faa-Hviding defeated UNLV's Samantha Li and Alex Kalachova 6-4 on court three. The Maroon & White clinched the point as Jayci Goldsmith and Tatiana Makarova bested UNLV's Aiwen Zhu and En-Pei Huang 6-4 on court one.

Adding singles wins for the Aggies against the Sin City-based visitors were freshman Katya Townsend, sophomore McQuaid, freshman Lucia Quitero, sophomore Makarova and freshman Jayci Goldsmith.

In the day's second match, the Aggies made quick work of the doubles point. A&M's Goldsmith and Makarova were the first off the court with a 6-3 win on court one. The point was clinched by the Aggie duo of Townsend and Quitero on court two.

Against the Rebels the Maroon & White secured singles victories from McQuaid, Townsend, No. 110 Goldsmith, Quitero and Faa-Hviding.

This spring the Aggies have posted a 31-2 singles record as Goldsmith, McQuaid and Townsend are each sporting a nine-match win streak. Faa-Hviding, Makarova and Quitero are all undefeated in dual matches.
