ATHENS, Georgia – The No. 21 Texas A&M women's tennis team fell, 4-0, to No. 2 Georgia, Sunday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. With the loss the Aggies fall to 14-3 this spring and 2-2 in the SEC while the Bulldogs improved to 11-0 on the year and 3-0 against the league.
"Today was definitely a tough day for us as a team," Texas A&M women's tennis head coach Mark Weaver said. "We did not play at the level that we are capable of and add in the fact that Georgia has a very fine team, which did not make for a great combination for us. We need to bounce back and have a great week of practice to prepare for a very good Vanderbilt team at home on Friday."
The Bulldogs claimed the doubles point to open the match with wins on court two and three. Georgia's Marta Gonzalez and Meg Kowalski topped A&M's Riley McQuaid and Lucia Quiterio, 6-1, on court three. The point was clinched by UGA's Elena Christofi and Vivian Wolff on court two by a score of 6-3 over A&M's Renee McBryde and Katya Townsend.
Georgia earned singles victories on courts two, four and six to secure the team match. No. 36 Wolff earned the first singles point with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over A&M's McBryde on court four. The third point of the match was secured by No. 16 Gonzalez of Georgia on court two, Gonzales bested A&M's Goldsmith, 6-2, 6-3, on court two. The Bulldogs secured the victory with a 6-2, 6-1 win by No. 95 Kowalski on court six over A&M's Dorthea Faa-Hviding.
