SEATTLE, Wash. – The No. 6 Texas A&M men's tennis team was on the wrong end of an over rule that sent the No. 7 UCLA Bruins through to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship Finals Sunday afternoon Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle, Wash. The Maroon & White fell, 4-2, to the Bruins to end their impressive run in the Pacific Northwest.
The Aggies won their first two matches at the National Team Indoor Championships for the first time in program history, but were edged out of a spot in the finals as No. 1 Martin Redlicki prevailed in a third-set tiebreaker against No. 84 Patrick Kypson. Kypson, a freshman from Raleigh, N.C., had a couple match points in the third set tiebreaker before an over rule gave the deciding point to the Bruins. Redlicki outlasted Kypson, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(6), on the top court.
Juan Carlos Aguilar and No. 97 AJ Catanzariti secured points for Texas A&M against UCLA. Aguilar was the first singles player off the court, topping Maxime Cressy, 6-2, 6-2, on court five. Catanzariti earned his first win Seattle with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 triumph over Connor Hanceon court six.
The Bruins earned the doubles point as Rapp and Keegan Smith defeated No. 6 Aguilar and Jordi Arconada, 6-4, on court two and Cressy and Bryce Pereira ousted Valentin Vacherot and Barnaby Smith, 6-3, on court three. UCLA also claimed points from No. 107 Smith's, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, win over No. 67 Arconada and No. 58 Logan Staggs, 7-5, 7-5, victory over No. 35 Vacherot.
