COLLEGE STATION, Texas – With nearly a dozen Texas A&M men's tennis letterman in attendance, the No. 6 Aggies swept LSU Sunday afternoon at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center. With the win, the Maroon & White improved to 12-3 on the season and 4-0 in SEC play while the Tigers fell to 8-7 overall and 1-4 in league play.
The home team made quick work of the doubles point, securing wins on court one and three to take the 1-0 lead. No. 14 Jordi Arconada and Juan Carlos Aguilar won for the second time this weekend, defeating Gabor Csonka and Julian Saboria 6-3 on the top court. AJ Catanzariti and Valentin Vacherot clinched the point moments later with a 6-4 win on court three over Shane Monroe and Stewart Block.
Between doubles and singles matches the 12th Man had the opportunity to recognize over a dozen of the Aggie greats in attendance. Included in the group were NCAA Doubles Champions Austin Krajicek and Jeff Dadamo and NCAA Doubles Championship runner-up Jackson Withrow. Recent graduates Shane Vinsant, Jordan Szabo and James Martell along with past greats Blake Arrant, Don Dixon, John Kirwin, Linsey Kroll, Mike Mills, Robert Neal and Trey Alford were honored.
No. 37 Arconada continued his hot streak of late, topping Csonka 6-0, 6-1, to win his fifth straight match and team-leading 14 dual match win. No. 10 Arthur Rinderknech won his eight straight match, defeating Monroe 6-2, 6-3 on court one. Freshman Barnaby Smith clinched the win with a 6-2, 6-2 win on court five over Agie Moreno.
The Aggies carried out the sweep as Aguilar defeated Nikola Samardzic on court four, followed by No. 31 Vacherot's win over Rafeal Wagner on court three. The final point of the day came from Kevin Lam, the junior bested Block 6-3, 6-3 on court six.
