FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 7 Texas A&M men's tennis team swept Arkansas, 7-0, Sunday afternoon at the Billingsley Tennis Center in Fayetteville, Ark. The Aggies (9-3, 2-0) claimed their second straight 7-0 win on the road after defeating Ole Miss on Friday and the Rebels (6-5, 1-1) on Sunday.
Texas A&M opened the day winning the doubles point for the fifth time this season. No. 42 Arthur Rinderknech and Patrick Kypson took care of business on court one, defeating Jose Salazar and Josh Howard-Tripp, 6-3. Valentin Vacherot and AJ Catanzariti clinched the point with a 6-3 win on court three over Alex Reco and Pedro Alonso.
No. 51 Jordi Arconada doubled the A&M advantage, making quick work of Josh Howard-Tripp on court three. The Buenos Aires, Argentina native, claimed a 6-1, 6-3 win to improve to 10-2 this spring. Additionally, the win was the 52nd career dual singles victory for Arconada moving him into a tie for 27th most wins in program history and just two wins from the top-25.
Freshman Juan Carlos Aguilar put the third point on the board for the Aggies, defeating Pedro Alonso 6-1, 6-2 on court five. Moments later, Aguilar's classmate, Barnaby Smith, secured the road win for Texas A&M with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Alex Reco on court six.
The Maroon & White captured the next two points in rapid succession as No. 46 Kypson and No. 21 Rinderknech won on courts one and two, respectively. Kypson picked up his fifth ranked win of the season with 6-3, 6-4 win over No. 78 Salazar on the top court. Rinderknech earned his 54th career dual singles win with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph over Adam Sanjurjo on court two. The win moved Rinderknech into a tie for 24th on A&M's all-time singles win list with Shaun O'Donovan (1987-90).
No. 17 Vacherot completed the sweep with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 win over Alonso on court five. The Aggies improved to 2-0 in league play this weekend, winning both matches with a perfect 7-0 score line at Ole Miss and Arkansas to open league play.
