Austin, Texas – Two Texas A&M divers earned their spots at the 2019 NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championship with strong performances on the first day of the NCAA Zone D Qualifier on Monday at the University of Texas.
Senior Sam Thornton (Baildon, United Kingdom) earned his fourth trip to the national meet, while sophomore Kurtis Mathews (Albury, Australia) will be making his second trip.
Thornton placed second in the one-meter springboard with a 12-dive score of 775.40, while Mathews was fifth with 723.30 points. On the women's side, senior Alaïs Kalonji was the team's lone finalist and placed 13th in the three-meter dive with 642.40 points.
