DALLAS--If ever a game provided credence to the point that statistics can lie, this contest did.
Alabama made only one first down (A&M had 13), gained just 59 yards rushing (to A&M's 115), 16 passing (to A&M's 194), and punted 16 times. But, the Crimson Tide scored 29 points and won the game. Seven Aggie interceptions and five lost fumbles negated any statistical advantages A&M achieved.
Alabama’s Jimmy Nelson was the star of the game with two interceptions, a 72-yard punt return for a score and a 21-yard scoring run.
